PARIS ($1=0.95 Euros) — During the international exhibition for defense and security Eurosatory, which took place from 13 to 17 June in the French capital Paris, the American division of the British company BAE Systems showed its Amphibious Combat Vehicle [ACV] with integrated remote weapon system PT20 at Kongsberg.
The ACV-30 replaces the US Marine Corps expeditionary fighting vehicles [EFV], a program that the government in Washington discontinued in 2011 to pave the way for the new amphibious combat vehicle [ACV] program already underway and implemented by Iveco and BAE Systems.
Production of the ACV-30 has already begun and both companies will have to deliver more than 500 units of the vehicle in a five-year contract that starts in 2021. ACV-30 will transport a total of 16 Marines [3 crew members and 13 Marines]. The vehicle deploys 12 miles from shore and swims at a maximum speed of up to 8 knots, which is nearly 15 km / h. On land, the ACV-30 reaches a top speed of 105 km / h, and with a single refueling of the fuel tank can cover a distance of 523 km.
The ACV-30 weighs 35 tons and has a payload of up to 7,280 lbs / 3,302 kg. Its range at sea followed by land is up to 12NM, followed by 250+ miles on land. The version that was demonstrated during the exhibition in Paris was armed with a 30mm Bushmaster automatic cannon [XM813 or MK4], which is the main cannon in the PT20 remote weapon system. RT20’s ammunition feeding is linkless ammunition feeding 2×75 ready rounds, all NATO ammunition, or Super 40x180mm Programmable Air Burst Ammunition [PABA].
The weapon system also has a secondary weapon and it is a 7.62mm coxial gun loaded with 200 rounds. The system offers the possibility to integrate smoke grenade launchers, but according to the PT20 specification, this is only at the customer’s request.
The ACV-30 shown to the US Infantry at the Paris exhibition was equipped with standard RT20 armament, although Kongsberg offered the integration of turret roof auxiliaries – a 12.7mm machine gun, as well as 40mm anti-tank guided missiles [ATGM]. The PT20 is additionally equipped with daytime and thermal imaging cameras, as well as a laser rangefinder [LRF].
